George Verghese

Bio

George Verghese is a skilled programmer and geospatial technology specialist at the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN). With a Master's degree in Computational Design Practices from Columbia University, he brings a unique blend of technical expertise and creative problem-solving abilities to his role.

At CIESIN, George plays a pivotal role in the development of geospatial applications, services, tools, and scripts that enable users to access and leverage NASA's Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) datasets. As part of the IT division, he provides crucial support for the EGIS project, which is essential to the organization's transition to cloud-based solutions.

In addition to his work at SEDAC, George collaborates with other Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs), ensuring the seamless publication of their datasets into EGIS. His passion for geospatial technologies is matched by his drive to empower users with the tools and insights they need to unlock the full potential of geospatial data.

When not immersed in his work, George enjoys outdoor activities such as kayaking and biking, allowing him to explore the natural world he helps to understand through his contributions at CIESIN.
