CIESIN is engaged in a number of major scientific meetings and conferences this fall. GRID3 project lead Paola Kim-Blanco and CIESIN associate director Greg Yetman are attending the WorldPop 10th Anniversary celebration and a GRID3 technical meeting in Southampton, UK, from 9-11 October. CIESIN director Alex de Sherbinin is attending the Shanghai-New York Twin City Forum for Science and Technology jointly organized by the New York Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology in Shanghai from 21-23 October, and will give a keynote talk on recent work on climate risk and vulnerability in low income cities. CIESIN associate director Dana Thomson is attending the World Urban Forum in Cairo, Egypt from 4-8 November, and will present on USAID-funded work on urban climate risks. Several CIESIN staff will attend the annual Geography 2050 conference, hosted by the American Geographical Society on 20-21 November. Dr. de Sherbinin is co-organizing, with partners at the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE), a workshop in Rio de Janeiro on "Understanding the impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations and promoting climate resilience in Rio de Janeiro", funded by Columbia's Rio Global Center Climate Hub. Finally, multiple CIESIN staff are planning to attend and present at the American Geophysical Union's (AGU) annual fall meeting from 9-14 December.
